Meet the Adult Leadership Team:

 

Jim McKenna, Charter Organization Representative and Committee Chair 

Jim McKenna grew up in Millburn and first joined Troop 17 as a Scout, after earning the Arrow of Light award as a Cub Scout in Pack 17. Jim earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 1985 and the Silver Eagle Palm the following year. Jim rejoined the Troop several years later as a Committee Member to help support the Troop and his former Scoutmaster Ken Fineran. In 2013 he became Troop Committee Chair and the Chartered Organization Representative in 2015. As Committee Chair Jim's focus has been in expanding and strengthening the Scouting program at Troop 17. Jim is a graduate of Rutgers University and Steven's Institute of Technology. He works for a global technology services provider and is responsible for improving the effectiveness and efficiency in key areas of the business. Jim lives in Millburn with his wife, Donna, and daughter, Lea.

 

 

Rich Faughnan, Assistant Scout Master 

Rich Faughnan became an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 17  in November 2015.  Rich has been involved in both Troop and Pack 17 since 2003, and previously served as a Den Leader and Committee Chair for Pack 17.  Rich has two sons who have been members of Troop 17, William (who earned his Eagle Scout award in 2015) and Matthew (who is currently in the Troop).  Rich earned his Eagle Scout award in 1972 with Troop 85 in Union.  Rich lives in South Orange with his wife Jeanine, his sons William and Matthew, and their dog, “Scout.”

 

 

Craig Kasmin, Assistant Scout Master 

As an adult volunteer, Craig Kasmin has been involved in scouting since becoming a Cub Scout Den Leader in 2011.  He was a Boy Scout himself as a youth and believes the skills and values he developed during that time continue to inspire him to this day.  His Troop 17 roles include trip leader, event registration coordinator, merit badge coordinator and First Aid adult lead.  Professionally he  is a Vice President of Finance Control for a financial services firm in lower Manhattan.  

 

 

 

 

 

Alan Kirschenbaum, Assistant Scout Master

 

Alan Kirshenbaum joined the troop as an Assistant Scoutmaster in 2013 with his oldest son Joshua.  Alan has been actively involved with the Boy Scouts organization for a long time, including as an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 17, Chairman of the Lenape Trail District Friends of Scouting campaign, a den leader with Pack 17 and is a recipient the Lenape Trail District Award of Merit.  Alan works in accounting and finance in the financial services industry in New York City, and is a graduate of Rutgers University and New York University.  Alan and his wife Stacey live in Short Hills with their three children. 

 

 

 

Brendan Middleton, Assistant Scout Master 

Brendan Middleton, Assistant Scoutmaster, grew up in Short Hills and is a Millburn High School graduate. He earned his Arrow of Light from Pack 17 before joining Troop 17, earning the rank of Eagle in 1993. Brendan is proud to be the brother of Michael Middleton, who has remained very active in the Troop over the years. When his own son, Kevin, became involved in Scouting, Brendan became active again as a Cub Scout adult volunteer before joining Troop 17 as an adult leader. Brendan works in healthcare communications. He and his wife, Michelle, live with Kevin in Parsippany.

 

 

 

 

David Rider, Assistant Scout Master 

David Rider is an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 17.  He first volunteered after his son, Joe, joined the troop in 2014.  Since then, he has attended many of our campouts, spent two weeks at Camp Turrell, went to the Bahamas for a week of Tall Ships High Adventure, completed the Assistant Scoutmaster specific training, Outdoor Leader Skills training, American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED training, ECSI Wilderness First Aid training and the Order of the Arrow initiate ordeal.  Originally from Williamsport, Pennsylvania, David is a graduate of Haverford College and Penn State University.  He now lives in Millburn with his wife, Ann, and their two children.  David works as the Budget Director for Seton Hall University.
