2012 Summer Camp

Camp Turrell , Cuddebackville , New York

Sunday July 8th to Saturday July 14th

Summer camp is open to all Troop members, but is especially important for our newest Scouts. No activity during the Scouting years better offers your son the ability to advance in Scouting, learn new outdoor skills, demonstrate leadership skills, and make memories to last a lifetime than summer camp. Summer camp will offer him the opportunity to swim, learn environmental skills, partake in archery and riflemanship, and even learn to sail, all while earning merit badges and traveling the road toward Eagle Scout.

This year, our Troop will be attending Camp Turrell, Cuddebackville, New York (located in the New York/New Jersey/Pennsylvania tri-state area) from Sunday, 8 July 2012 through Saturday, 14 July 2012.

Camp Turrell is owned and operated by the Northern New Jersey Council of the Boy Scouts of America. It meets and exceeds the accreditation and safety standards of both the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America and the State of New York. In addition to the camp staff, the Troop will be supervised by our own qualified adult leaders, who have training in youth protection and first aid.

To register your son for this experience is simple. Just send a check made out to Troop 17 for $375.00, sign the enclosed permission slip, attach a current photo of your son, and have your son’s physician fill out the attached health form. Please mail the packet to LT Eakley at Post Office Box 1199, Intervale, New Hampshire 03845-1199, NO LATER than April 13, 2012 . The entire packet must be complete for your son to be registered.

As always, the ability to pay for summer camp should never be an obstacle to your son’s ability to attend camp. If you need a camp scholarship, please contact LT Eakley. If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact LT Eakley at (973) 379 4975 or at MillburnPD@aol.com.

Drop off

Scouts should be dropped off at Camp promptly between 12:30 and 1:00 PM. Scouts should arrive at camp wearing swim trunks and be ready for the medical check-in and swim test.

Any Scout taking medications while at camp must have all medications in a bag to present to the staff at the medical check-in. All medications must be in the original packaging (perscription bottes) with the Scout's name and the explicit instructions from the medical care provider.

Scouts will hike the 1/4 mile to the campsite carrying all of their own equipment. Scouts should remember not to pack more than the Scout can carry on his own.

Each Scout should bring thier complete Scout uniform to camp. This includes shirt, pants and neckerchief.

Scouts should NOT bring cell phones to camp. Radios, iPods, GameBoys, portable TVs and other electronic devices are best left at home.

Pickup

Parents should plan to pick up Scouts from camp between 8:30 AM and 9:30 AM on Saturday July 14th. All Scouts must be picked up by no later than 9:30 AM. Traffic can be a problem, so please plan to give yourself enough time to make it to camp on time.
